“Times are hard these days especially for the youth of Australia, Id like to support them any way I can and fundraising for them is the least I can do. Also I am a single mum to triplets so I personally know how tough it is for the kids who may be missing out on the simple things in life so I chose the Kokoda youth foundation to help with the awesome programs they have going for our kids.”
I have a simple belief that all children deserve a fair start in life. By giving children the support, resources, and guidance early in life creates healthy, happy, productive adults.
I did my first Kokoda Challenge in 2016, when I finished, I vowed to myself, that I would never do it again. I have been back every year since, except for 2020, when COVID saw the event cancelled. What I realised after the pain of the event was forgotten, was, that I had so much more inside than I thought I did. It’s not called Australia’s toughest TEAM Endurance Event for nothing. It was the support of my TEAM (The MATESHIP) that helped me find the COURAGE and ENDURANCE, that got me through. Now I return each year to ENCOURAGE and SUPPORT others, the way I was supported.
Aimed at 14-16 year olds, this nine month life skills program is for teens from all walks of life. It is built around our core values of Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice, while being focused on training for a peak experience, which traditionally has been hiking the real Kokoda track in Papua New Guinea.
Throughout the program, kids are challenged and mentored through weekly endurance hikes and volunteer community service to learn the skills that build personal strength and resilience to help overcome adversity and succeed.
On The Right Track (OTRT) is a Kokoda Youth Foundation initiative designed for select high schools, focusing on students aged 13 to 15. This in-school program takes a proactive approach to support at-risk youth, aiming to prevent them from engaging in criminal activities and becoming disengaged from education.
The program runs one day a week and includes three months of physical training to prepare for the 48km Kokoda Challenge event. It aims to foster self-discipline and tolerance while encouraging participants to overcome their preconceived beliefs and push beyond their personal limits.
Following the training, students engage in three months of community service, giving them the opportunity to make meaningful contributions and build positive connections within their local community.
Our Digital Detox program gives the opportunity for kids to totally disconnect from technology and become more conscious of their relationship with technology.
Starting in 2022, and run onsite at our outdoor education facility Kokoda Park, this is a 9 day camp program for teens who are showing signs of digital dependence.
Through a series of adventure-based activities and educational workshops, the kids will be given the opportunity to disconnect, evaluate their well-being and create healthy new habits and boundaries in order to thrive in a digital world.
The Kokoda Youth Foundation is a locally operated charity that has proudly supported Australian young people and their local communities for 20 years. Our experiential youth programs help young people gain physical and mental resilience, confidence, and instill in them Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice through the story of the Kokoda Campaign in 1942. These programs are run solely from donations from generous Australians, just like you.
