Kokoda Youth Foundation
Getaway Trekking & Adventures is proud of its long-term relationship with Kokoda Youth Foundation as a provider of peak experiences. Since 2014, they have supported hundreds of KCYP participants on their Kokoda Trek. They have the privilege of being witness to the significant personal growth that occurs as a result of this program and their ultimate Kokoda journey.
International travel restrictions saw a 2021 switch to domestic travel and the inaugural Packers Ghost Trek in Far North Queensland. The kids trek through rugged and varied terrain in a harsh climate, working and connecting with pack donkeys supporting the group. Aside from the physical challenge, the unfolding of relationships between animal and trekker, and the gradual increase in confidence and belief is something to behold.
Scott Whimpey, Director of First Aid Accident & Emergency, has been involved with The Kokoda Challenge since 2008. He has helped thousands of competitors get to the finish line through his co-ordination of our First Aid services in conjunction with QAS, and also works with The Kokoda Challenge management team to risk assess the event.
Scott is also a four time winner of the Challenge, and has competed in the event twice with the elite Nike Hammer team who have an astonishing winning time of 11:19min for the 96km event.
Help to support First Aid Accident & Emergency, a long-time supporter of the Kokoda Challenge, by booking your next first aid course with them or purchasing a Defibrillator for your business or sporting club through FAAE. They are a local Gold Coast First Aid and defibrillator specialist.

The Kokoda Youth Foundation is a locally operated charity that has proudly supported Australian young people and their local communities for more than 17 years. Our experiential youth programs help young people gain physical and mental resilience, confidence, and instill in them Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice through the story of the Kokoda Campaign in 1942. These programs are run solely from donations from generous Australians, just like you.
