Helping young people reconnect with their education
Our On The Right Track (OTRT) program is delivered in partnership with select Queensland high schools to support students aged 13–15 who are at risk of disengaging from education, or developing anti-social behaviours. This six-month, in-school initiative strengthens protective factors like school engagement, personal resilience, community connection, and positive peer relationships.
Through various physical challenges, hands-on experiences, and ongoing mentorship, our structured approach builds resilience, confidence, and a renewed connection to learning. OTRT participants develop life skills, healthy boundaries, and a sense of achievement that empowers them to overcome obstacles and realise their potential – both in the classroom, and beyond.
Inspired by the 1942 Kokoda Campaign, participants are guided to embody the Spirit of Kokoda – Courage, Endurance, Sacrifice, and Mateship – qualities that underpin every step of their journey. A highlight of the program is the Kokoda Challenge, where they complete the 48km endurance event as a team, and put the Kokoda values to the test. This milestone reinforces the lessons learned, celebrates teamwork, and builds lasting pride. The experience continues through volunteer community service, where students apply their skills to give back to others.
At the Kokoda Youth Foundation, we believe every young person deserves the chance to thrive. On The Right Track is entirely free of charge and offers a safe, supportive, and challenging environment equipping participants with the tools, mindset, and confidence to succeed.
