About the role

Be part of a team that empowers young people to thrive.

At the Kokoda Youth Foundation (KYF), we believe in changing lives through the Spirit of Kokoda – Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice. Our Isurava Program helps young people at risk reconnect with themselves, their families, and their communities through mentoring, camps, and challenge-based activities.

We’re seeking passionate Youth Support Officers to work directly with young people, helping them build resilience, identity, and connection.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver program activities across mentoring, camps, and community-based learning.
  • Provide one-on-one and group support, building trust and modelling positive behaviour.
  • Implement support and risk strategies to keep young people safe and engaged.
  • Respond calmly to behavioural challenges with a trauma-aware approach.
  • Participate fully in team briefings, logistics, and reflective practice.
  • Contribute to accurate records and reporting to support program evaluation.

What we’re looking for

  • Certificate IV (or higher) in Youth Work, Community Services, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience engaging at-risk young people in group, mentoring, or residential settings.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed and culturally safe practice.
  • Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).

Desirable: Experience in outdoor or adventure-based education; working towards Diploma-level qualifications in Youth Work, Community Services, or Outdoor Recreation.
