Gold Coast Youth Officer

Team Leader – Isurava Program (Gold Coast)

About the role

Lead with purpose. Change lives with impact.

At the Kokoda Youth Foundation (KYF), we exist to change lives through the Spirit of Kokoda – Courage, Endurance, Mateship and Sacrifice. Our Isurava Program is designed to support young people at risk of disengagement, helping them build resilience, identity, and connection through camps, mentoring, and challenge-based activities.

We’re looking for a passionate Team Leader to guide a small team and deliver this life-changing program across South East Queensland.

What you’ll do

  • Lead the delivery of the Isurava Program, including residential camps, wilderness experiences, and structured mentoring.
  • Supervise and support a team of Youth Support Officers, ensuring safe and consistent program delivery.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with young people through mentoring and challenge-based engagement.
  • Oversee participant safety by implementing risk and behaviour management strategies.
  • Work closely with Intake and Support Officers and our First Nations Advisor to align delivery with each participant’s needs and goals.
  • Ensure fidelity to the program model while contributing to ongoing evaluation and improvement.

What we’re looking for

  • Minimum Diploma-level qualification in Youth Work, Community Services, Social Work, or related field.
  • Experience supervising or leading staff in youth programs (residential, mentoring, or adventure-based settings preferred).
  • Training in trauma-informed practice, youth mental health, and remote/wilderness first aid (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to engage at-risk young people and manage group dynamics in high-challenge environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Current Driver’s Licence and Working with Children Check (or ability to obtain).
  • Flexibility to work overnights and weekends during program delivery.
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people in culturally safe ways.

Desirable: Certificate IV+ in Outdoor Recreation or Experiential Learning

Why join us?

  • Be part of a values-driven organisation that has been empowering young Australians for over 20 years.
  • Lead meaningful work that directly impacts young people and their families.
  • Join a supportive, passionate team committed to professional growth and wellbeing.
  • Work across dynamic environments – from regional offices to outdoor adventure settings.
